Behind the Engineering: Offline-First Synchronization in Drape POS

Internet connectivity in high-traffic retail environments can be unpredictable. When power or network links drop, cash registers cannot afford to stop accepting customer orders.

Local-First IndexedDB Storage

Drape POS leverages client-side IndexedDB databases to persist local product catalogs, customer records, and pending cart orders directly inside the browser or Electron app container.

How Background Sync Queue Works:

  • Instant Local Commitment: Orders placed offline are instantly assigned UUID v4 transaction keys.
  • Automatic Connection Listener: The app continuously pings network gateways using exponential backoff retry algorithms.
  • Batch Mutex Synchronization: When online connectivity is restored, pending orders are dispatched via atomic PostgreSQL transactions.
  • This architecture guarantees 100% checkout uptime regardless of network stability.
